Executive Education Healthcare Management Program in the Naveen Jindal School of Management

The Executive Education Healthcare Management Program in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas and VitreosHealth, an innovative provider of predictive population management software, have developed a collaborative relationship to encourage practicing physicians to adopt new business and practice management methods that promise to enhance their effectiveness as healthcare delivery and reimbursement changes focus more on the health and wellness of patient populations as well as individual patients.

Dr. Michael Deegan, Clinical Professor for Healthcare Leadership & Innovation at the Jindal School, collaborated with a national medical professional society, to design, develop and deliver a unique asynchronous online leadership & management course for practicing physicians.
The ten-month certificate program has a number of unique aspects including:
  • Asynchronous online content delivery allowing participants flexibility regarding where and when they choose to study
  • Multiple learning resources including video, case studies, articles, and active online exchanges between participants and faculty
  • Innovative content that develops the personal awareness, competencies and skills. Physicians need to achieve a competitive advantage in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment
VitreosHealth’s (formerly PSCI Solutions) leaders were intrigued when they learned about this new educational program because they were finding potential clients had knowledge gaps regarding what it will take to successful transition from traditional fee-for-service care reimbursement models to risk / quality based care delivery and financing alternatives like bundled reimbursement, accountable care organizations and comprehensive capitation models.
They found the UT Dallas Healthcare Leadership & Management Program for Physicians has identified and addressed many of these gaps and plan on encouraging current and potential clients to enroll key organizational physician leaders in the program.

“We will offer the online UT Dallas Healthcare Leadership & Management Program to all our customers as a part of our bundled solution. Based on our customer experiences and needs, it is clear that physician education is critical for their engagement in a successful Population Health program,” said Jay Reddy, CEO of VitreosHealth.
At present the two organizations are working together to build awareness of the educational program among VitreosHealth’s clients and healthcare provider organizations. They are also exploring joint conferences and internship programs for UT Dallas students.

Naveen Jindal- Biography

A crusader for the Indian national flag, an advocate of women and child rights, a philanthropist, a parliamentarian, a politician, a successful industrialist, and a sportsman par excellence…that’s Naveen Jindal for you.

A man of myriad talents, Naveen stands out for his sense of commitment, responsibility, dedication, honesty, integrity and sheer passion in all his undertakings.

Born in Hisar, Haryana, on 9 March 1970, Naveen is the youngest child of the industrialist-philanthropist-politician Om Prakash Jindal and his wife Savitri. He studied at the Delhi Public School (Mathura Road), New Delhi, before graduating in Commerce from Hans Raj College, Delhi University, in 1990. He subsequently completed an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, in 1992. His penchant for leadership became evident during his student days. He was the President of the Student Government and recipient of the ‘Student Leader of the Year Award’ at the university.

On his return to India, Naveen began managing his father’s political affairs. In 2004 he stood for elections from Kurukshetra on a Congress party ticket and won, beating his nearest rival Abhay Singh Chautala by 1.6 lakh votes. He repeated the feat in 2009.

While Naveen is a two-time Member of Parliament from the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency in Haryana, he is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Steel and Power Limited, which is a part of the $15 billion diversified O.P. Jindal Group. Naveen’s hard work and business acumen demands applause, for he has transformed the once moderately performing enterprise to the organisation that today operates as the world’s largest coal-based sponge iron manufacturing plant in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, in addition to plants in Jharkhand and Odisha.

He is also the Chairman of Jindal Power Limited, a subsidiary of JSPL, which runs the 1,000 MW O.P. Jindal Thermal Power Plant in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh – India’s first such 1,000 MW plant in the private sector. Going beyond his own constituency, Naveen has championed the causes of education, healthcare and the upliftment of weaker sections across Haryana, and in the vicinity of his factories in other parts of India. He has set up hospitals and schools, adopted villages and is an active campaigner for women’s empowerment, health and education. In 2011 Naveen added another feather in his cap by establishing the ‘Citizens’ Alliance for Reproductive Health and Rights’, an organisation that brings together politicians, media persons and NGOs in a bid to spread awareness about family planning, maternal and child mortality, and related issues. Naveen is a true social entrepreneur. He is a people person. He can effortlessly relate to thousands of other people, and is driven to help those who are in need. His numerous social initiatives have led to an overall improvement in the quality of life in all regions where he has business interests, and beyond.

For those who may not know, Naveen is the man who is single-handedly responsible for making the Tiranga more accessible to the average citizen. His unrelenting legal and political campaign led to a revision of the Flag Code of India which now grants every private citizen the right to fly the Indian National Flag publicly with dignity and honour on all days of the year. The Flag Foundation of India that he founded along with his wife is an effort to foster respect for the Tiranga and the values it embodies among Indian youth.
It is not surprising to learn that in 2011 his unrelenting support to his alma mater was recognised in a unique way, as the University of Texas at Dallas renamed its ‘School of Management’ as ‘The Naveen Jindal School of Management.’ A special acknowledgement for a special person indeed.

He is also an international level shooting champion who has represented India on numerous national and international platforms including the Asian Games. Naveen is also an avid polo player. Naveen’s mother is currently a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from Hisar and is the Chairperson Emeritus of Jindal Steel and Power Limited and JSW Steel. He has eight siblings: sisters Saroj Bhartia, Nirmala Goel, Urmila Bhuwalka, Sarika Jhunjhunwala and Seema Jajodia; and brothers Prithviraj, Sajjan and Rattan Jindal who are also industrialists.

Naveen is married to accomplished Kuchipudi dancer Shallu Jindal. The couple has a son and a daughter and they live in Delhi and Kurukshetra.

Naveen Jindal is a charismatic, dynamic, and a down-to-earth human being who lives life intensely. He is sincerely determined to reach out to the masses and bring about a positive change in the lives of those he touches.

7 Perfect Valentine's Day Gifts for Your Guy

Gifting something special to your guy on Valentine’s Day can be a little tricky. Guys are usually not so forthcoming or particular about what they want as gifts. But that does not mean they don’t love them. So what to get for them? Well, let us make your task easy by telling you about the gifts your guy secretly desires.
Chocolates, roses or soft toys are a complete no-no; they only prove that you have not put too much thought into what to gift him. If you want to give him the perfect gift, get something which is really thoughtful. Here are few ideas for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your guy.

Sports memorabilia

Is your boyfriend a sports freak? We know when it comes to guys you might feel this question should not be asked, but we still want you to think hard and answer. We want you to recollect what sport he actually likes and what teams or players are his favourites.

You can gift him the sports memorabilia of his favorite team. His favorite team’s jersey or an autograph of his favorite player will definitely make him go over the moon. You can easily find sports memorabilia from various auction sites. So, start bidding in advance. If this is out of your reach, then you can gift him match tickets or an annual subscription to his favorite sports magazine. If nothing else works, it is easy to find a jersey or jacket with his favorite player’s number on it.

Perfume

Guys love to be pampered just like girls. This is something we know they would never accept! So, gift him a high-end perfume that he has been lusting after for ages. Try to figure out his taste, the perfume notes he prefers, look for his favorite brand and make your choice accordingly.
If you don’t like his choice of perfume then you gift him something that you think will make him smell good. Ask a buddy of his to tag along, so that he can help you make a good choice.

Gadgets

Guys love gadgets and they secretly desire for them always. You don’t need to break your bank account by gifting your boyfriend a high priced gadget; you can give him something quirky and fun. A water-based alarm clock, a USB drive in the shape of his favourite super hero or a new set of stylish noise-cancelling headphones will definitely make him happy. You can also get some colourful Bluetooth speakers, to add a colourful spark to his room.

Fun things

Try for things that are a little different and fun. Colourful shot glasses with crazy captions, stylish bottle openers and even stoppers, a Kamasutra card set, a Swiss knife, darts game or a poker chip set are some of the fun things which will make your guy’s face light up with delight. Well, such a gift would also show your man, what a “cool” girlfriend you are!

Chocolates

By chocolates we don’t mean those gifts packs that are available in supermarkets. Your chocolates need to be a little hatke. After all, they are for the most hatke person in your life! Premium dark chocolates stuffed with paan, chilly or saunf can really tingle his taste buds. If your guy is not too adventurous with his food, you can gift the traditional chocolates with praline and nuts filling.

Dig into his likes

This one depends on how well you really know your man. Think about what he likes, it can be something completely nerdy or totally luxurious. If comics are all that your man talks about, get hold of a vintage comic to surprise him this V-day. If he is obsessed with a music band or a movie character (does Rocky or Family Guy ring a bell?), gift him a graffiti tee with his favourite picture or a quote. And, if your sweetheart is into music, gift him a guitar or a set of drums or limited edition vinyl records that he has been saving up for.
If your man is obsessed with his work, this is a perfect opportunity for you to get him a luxurious pen, which would remind him of you even when he is at work. High-end pens like Mont Blanc and Pierre Cardin can make any guy swoon. And, fountain pens are really fashionable and are symbolic of good taste and sophistication.

Homemade goodies

If you really cannot afford to gift your guy something expensive, then whip up something for him at home. Show him that you can be a domestic goddess by making some chocolate chip cookies. Put them in a tin and write a cute note for him. You can also create personalized gift cards for him with ‘gifts’ such as giving him the TV remote for an hour, breakfast in bed, not making annoying noises when his favorite match is on, giving him a kiss whenever he demands and so on. He can redeem these gift cards whenever he likes and you can surprise him all through the year.

5 Unusual Valentine's Day Celebration Ideas

February 14th, Valentine’s Day is considered to be the day of love. It is that day when cupid strikes, a day full of flowers and chocolates, a day of gifts and most importantly- lots and lots of love. The most usual way that couples celebrate this day of love is by gifting each other teddy bears, flowers and chocolates, going on romantic dates, candle light dinners etc. But sometimes thinking out of the box and doing something entirely different and exciting can be a good change. So, here are five rather unusual Valentine Day’s celebration ideas.

Unlike other couples who do the same old things on Valentine’s Day, be different and go visit the most unlikely places a couple would visit on this day. For example, take a guided tour of your own city and visit all the major tourist spots. You can also click lots of pictures of yourselves and make an album.

2. Create a restaurant at home :

Another unusual but awesome idea is to surprise your partner by creating a restaurant like ambiance at home. You could set up a table for two on your terrace or in your garden and decorate the surroundings with lights or flowers and some awesome music to go with it. This would give the evening a very romantic as well as personal touch.

3. Organize a party for your single friends:

Usually on Valentine’s Day, single people organise anti-Valentine’s Day parties and celebrate being single. You could go in the other direction and instead organise a party for all your single friends and organise games that would make people meet and if lucky, probably fall in love too. You could even organise group dates with all your friends on this day.

Instead of buying a gift from the gift shop or just giving your partner flowers and chocolates, do something unusual and give your love a gift with a personal touch. For that you could make an entire home cooked meal for your partner, the menu being his or her favourite foods. You could make a collage of all your best pictures together and write a love message on the frame. You could also send a love message for your partner on the radio.

And last but not the least, instead of spending the entire day with your partner only hanging out and spending money, go and volunteer together and make others happy. You along with your partner could go and spend time at an old age home, an orphanage or an animal shelter. You could also donate clothes, toys and money at orphanages or take food and treats for the animals at the shelter. This would not only make you feel wonderful, but will also bring joy and happiness to those who are less fortunate.

Pressure on farmland

The government, it appears, is yet to find ways to address conflicting demands on land. Instead of quickly charting a comprehensive approach to land utilisation, it continues to speak in different voices and at cross purposes. The latest addition to the policy confusion is the move to consider Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in agricultural land bought for real estate purposes. Existing Foreign Exchange Management Act regulations prohibit the use of FDI funds to buy farmland. However, real estate companies have tried to bypass these restrictions. Last year, the Enforcement Directorate imposed a fine of Rs. 8,600 crore on Emaar MGF for allegedly using foreign funds to buy agricultural land. The Ministry of Urban Development now wants to ease these restrictions, and the government has constituted a three-member Cabinet committee to look into it. The reasoning behind this move is that 100 per cent FDI is already permitted in developing townships, housing and other infrastructure projects. Hence, it would be only logical to extend it and allow the purchase of agricultural land for construction purposes. The other arguments are that restrictions create bottlenecks and delay projects, and that buying of agricultural land on the outskirts of a city is inevitable and necessary.

On the face of it, relaxing FDI norms may appear to be a rational step, but in the absence of a clear-cut land use policy and plans, it will hasten unrestricted acquisition and unplanned conversion of farmland and lead to hoarding of land. In 2013, the Ministry of Rural Development published a draft National Land Utilisation Policy. It convincingly argued that the shrinkage of per capita ownership of agricultural land and the demand to produce more food — 245 million tonnes in 2013 to 307 million tonnes in 2020 — necessitates the protection of fertile land. The National Policy for Farmers, announced in 2007, insisted that the government conserve productive land and allow any change in use only under “exceptional circumstances.” These two policies make no distinction between foreign and local investment. The government has not acted on a recommendation to revive land use boards, which could provide guidelines to State governments. Nor has it implemented the idea of delineating and integrating land utilisation zones under the development plans. These measures are necessary to map the availability of land and coordinate demands for it. It is imperative to correct any institutional deficiencies and strengthen local level land-management plans to ensure an orderly process of urban development and prevent detrimental effects on agriculture and environment.

Dating Ideas for Valentine`s Day

No matter what naysayers say, Valentine`s Day is a great day to celebrate love and relationships, and you ought to do something special for the love of your life. You don`t want to miss out on an excellent opportunity to spice things up in your love life, do you? Make this Valentine`s Day an affair to remember. Get started with these fun dating ideas!

Aries (March 21 - April 19)-
If your date is an Aries, you`ve got a tough road ahead. They will have huge expectations from you, fulfilling which may prove to be a tad too difficult. However, there`s something that never fails to excite an Aries-adventure. Visiting an amusement park would be a great way to rekindle your relationship. The perfect gift for your Aries Guy would be the latest gadget; something that he may be dying to possess, while the ladies would definitely not mind a pair of gemstones studded earrings.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)-
It`s really not that hard to bring a smile on the face of your Taurus sweetheart. Where romance goes, they are pretty traditional. They are cool with being gifted flowers and chocolates. But, there is one catch: if you plan to go traditional, make sure that everything is perfect, the best wine, the finest China and the best restaurant. Well, if that makes you nervous, there`s something else you can do. Since most bulls love to indulge their senses, prepare a sumptuous meal, redecorate your bedroom, add some drops of lavender oil to an oil diffuser, experiment with the lighting to set up a warm and cozy atmosphere and soon your Taurus sweetheart would be eating out of your hands. Gift your Taurus darling something that they can make use of, a warm sweater or a dress from the best or at least their favourite brand. A music CD of their favourite band will warm their hearts too.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)-
The twins are strongly attracted to places that give them the opportunity to bring out their social side. A trip to the museum, bowling alley, a cafe or a place where there are lots of people is certain to make them happy. The trick is to keep the date easygoing and simple. What`s better is to make a list of all those lesser known places in your city, grab a camera and take your date along to explore the city and each other too. An assortment of gifts would thrill the Gemini; present them with a gift at successive intervals during your date. You may gift them travel accessories, a camera, a book reader; just keep it useful and simple, nothing flashy.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)-
Cancerians are romantics and nothing makes them happier than a hot date with their lover. They don`t like to be surrounded with too many people and derive happiness in solitude. If a candle lit dinner is not your idea of a fun date or if that was what you did the last year, visiting a museum will be a good idea. But what will be great is to gift them your time; sign up for a pottery class or salsa class, so that you can spend some time together, not just today but later too. Cancerians love to be pampered and spa vouchers would make for excellent gifts. Also, something that you made especially for them, like a knitted pair of gloves or even a simple card, is really going to thrill them. And remember the presentation matters a great deal to them, so take time to wrap your gifts and do it with love.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)-
Of course, your Leo darling would have their hopes high and would want you to take them some place royal. Now, you can either be intimidated or take charge and plan something really special. How about obtaining the VIP passes to an important event in the city? If that`s not possible, then you can take them to a photo studio or set up one in your home and take pictures of your sweetheart all day long. Leos, so love to be in the limelight. And don`t forget to plan a sumptuous dinner for later in the evening. It`s all right to stroke their egos and treat them like superstars, which they may not be, once in a while. Gift them something that screams attention- a limited edition watch, a jazzy pair of earrings, tickets to their favourite concert or a theatre in town.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)-
They might have the reputation of being the nitpickers of the zodiac but the Virgins are actually quite sweet and genial. They appreciate if their partners do something special for them, even if it is something as simple as cleaning the house or offering to do a chore for them. Organize a sports date. Since Golf is an elegant sport, it will definitely go well with Virgo`s taste for refined things and the need to stay fit. That`s what you call killing two birds with one stone. Books, home appliances, coffee machine and other such practical gifts will definitely score with your Virgo sweetheart.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)-
Got a Libra to impress? Do it in three simple steps. Step 1- Dress up in something sexy and comfortable. Step 2- Choose a fun mode of travel to reach your destination. Step 3- Visit a lovely but naturally blessed place. Librans are nature lovers. Peace and tranquility appeals to the Libran mind. Your Libran partner can`t thank you enough for getting away from the maddening rush of everyday life. They prefer places where there aren`t many people around. You wouldn`t have to worry about people complaining about your PDA. Another great idea would be to visit a planetarium and do some star gazing together. A gift hamper from their favourite cosmetic brand, candlesticks, picture frames and good music will make your Libra sweetheart leap with joy.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)-
It is hard to discern the many moods of the Scorpio, but they do love to have fun. So set up a football date with your mate and watch them go crazy as you battle for their affection. Play poker. That`ll surely be fun, considering how good most Scorpios are at keeping a Poker face. Gift them something dark and mysterious. A deck of Tarot Cards, a pair of shades (they like to stay incognito) or you may just gift shopping vouchers so that no one knows what they`ve bought.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)-
This Valentine`s, get cheesy. Turn your room into the cheesiest Chinese, Italian or Indian restaurant; good food is important though. And don`t forget to dress the part. Rent a rom-com and watch together once you are done teasing your Sagittarius mate with all the cheesy pickup lines in the world. Sagittarians love surprises. Surprise your Sagittarius mate with tickets to a special concert or to a romantic getaway out of town. Antique gifts, travelling books or gifts to cultivate their hobbies will also be a good idea.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)-
Capricorns are known to be workaholics but it doesn`t hurt to take a break and go on a trip once in a while. Book a trip for your Capricorn mate. If that`s not possible, opt for a little picnic in the laps of nature. Choose a place that is beautiful and obviously romantic. Watch the sunset together, go for a stroll with your Cappie sweetheart and don`t forget to hold hands; the goats love to hold hands. A bottle of expensive wine or something that you made yourself, like a knitted pair of gloves will make them more than happy.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)-
Give into the whims of your Aquarius partner, this Valentine`s. An amusement park ride or a horror movie is sure to thrill your partner. Aquarians are also quite compassionate, so visiting an old age home and spending time with those who aren`t as fortunate as you will also make your Aquarian mate quite happy. Video games, the latest accessories and scented candles are certain to please the water bearers.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)-
Go visit that music concert or set up a date on the roof of your building, complete with some wine and roses. And if you can, a roadtrip or hiking in the Himalayas would be great too. Hide love messages in the home or better yet, clues leading to their gift. They`ll love you for it. Make a collage of photos or a special video telling them how much you love them.
